Cables & connectors: buying guide

Connecting a Leslie to a console organ takes the right cable and, on most consoles, a connector kit inside the organ. This section covers 6-pin Leslie cables, 5-pin to 6-pin cables for organs with the older outlet, a console connector kit for the Leslie 122, and a general replacement power cord.

A Leslie 122 is usually connected with a 6-pin cable. Many B-3, C-3 and A-100 consoles have a 5-pin outlet, so the usual setup is a 5-to-6-pin cable plus a console connector kit that supplies speed switching for the 122. The A-100 has its own built-in amplifier and speakers, while the B-3 and C-3 need an external speaker to be heard at all.

The most important rule: Leslie 122 and 147 hookups are not interchangeable. The 122 has a balanced input and the 147 an unbalanced one, and they switch speeds differently, even though both can use 6-pin plugs. Plugging the wrong cabinet into the wrong outlet can damage the organ, the Leslie or both. Label your cables, and if you're not sure which kit your organ has, ask a technician to check.

Common questions

Which cable do I need for a Leslie 122?

Most 122 cabinets use a 6-pin cable. If your organ has a 5-pin outlet, use a 5-pin to 6-pin cable with a console connector kit for the 122 installed in the organ.

Can I plug a Leslie 147 into a 122 outlet?

No. The 122 and 147 use different input and speed-switching wiring even though both can use 6-pin plugs. Mixing them can damage the organ, the Leslie or both. Use the cable and connector kit made for your cabinet.

Do I need a connector kit for my B-3 or C-3?

Most B-3, C-3 and A-100 consoles need a console connector kit to drive a 122 and switch its speeds. Some organs already have one fitted; look inside the organ for a kit and its switch before ordering.

Is the power cord a direct fit for my organ?

It's a general replacement 3-conductor grounded cord, not tied to one model. Old internal wiring should be checked by a qualified technician when a cord is replaced.
