Drawbars & switches: buying guide
Drawbars, tab switches and the run and start switches take more wear than almost anything else on a console organ. Drawbars get bent, snapped or lose their tips; percussion and vibrato tabs get loose or stop making contact; and run and start switches wear until the organ won't start or won't stay running. This section collects those replacement parts in one place.
The drawbars and percussion tab assembly listed here are console parts for the B-3, C-3 and A-100. Drawbars are colour-coded by footage, in brown, white and black, so match the colour of the one you're replacing as well as the style. The run and start switch pair fits the consoles and the M-3 spinet. The L-100 uses a self-starting motor and has no start switch, so these switches don't apply to it.
Before replacing a switch, it's worth ruling out the simpler causes. A dry generator or a sticky start-motor pinion can mimic a failed start switch, and a scratchy drawbar is often a dirty contact rather than a broken part. When you do swap a part, photograph the wiring first so every lead goes back where it came from.
Common questions
Will these drawbars fit my B-3?
The drawbars listed here are console style and fit B-3, C-3 and A-100 drawbar rows. Drawbars are colour-coded by footage (brown, white, black), so order the colour that matches the position you're replacing.
My organ won't stay running when I release start. Is it the run switch?
It can be. A worn run switch is a common cause, but so is a weak run motor or a generator that needs oil. If the generator spins freely and the run motor gets power, a new run switch usually solves it.
Do these switches fit the L-100?
No. The L-100 has a self-starting motor without a separate start switch. The run and start switch pair fits B-3, C-3 and A-100 consoles and the M-3 spinet.
What should I photograph before replacing a tab switch?
Take clear photos of every wire and its terminal from two angles before you unsolder anything. Tab switch assemblies have several leads close together, and photos make it easy to reconnect them in the right order.
